Late last year, the Apple Studios film “Wolfs” starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney had completed filming but hadn’t released any material and was all set to score a major theatrical release through Sony Pictures.
At the time those involved, including the actors and “Spider-Man” director Jon Watts, were talking up sequel possibilities to their film about two lone wolf fixers assigned to the same job.
Nearly a year later, any talk of a sequel is seemingly dead according to Watts himself. Speaking with Collider, he was asked about what he’s working on next which is when he said: “I don’t know what I’m directing next, and I don’t think there’s going to be a Wolfs sequel.”
The news is understandable. The film boasted a high-profile cast and hefty production budget, but reviews were tepid overall at 66% (5.9/10) critics and 51% audience on Rotten Tomatoes.
In addition much of the talk surrounding the film wasn’t in regards to the work itself but the scrapped theatrical release and enormous star salaries. Any potential awards buzz also seems to have vanished.
Apple did announce that the movie had been one of Apple TV+’s most-viewed movies after its premiere, but didn’t provide specific numbers so it’s not clear how popular it was.
Austin Abrams, Amy Ryan, and Poorna Jagannathan co-starred in the film.
