Oscar winner Javier Bardem is set to star in the Martin Scorsese and Steven Spielberg-produced upcoming drama series re-imagining of “Cape Fear” for the Apple TV+ service.
Nick Antosca (“A Friend of the Family,” “The Act”) is writing and will showrun the series which Scorsese, Spielberg and Bardem executive produce the show which has a series order and green light at the streamer.
The ten-episode series is dubbed as a tense, Hitchcockian thriller and an examination of America’s 21st century obsession with true crime.
Otherwise the overall basics of the story remain – two happily married attorneys, Amanda and Steve Bowden, face a growing storm when a notorious killer from their past named Max Cady (Bardem) gets out of prison.
The new take is based on both the novel “The Executioners” which was the source material for the 1962 film with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum, as well as being heavily inspired by the 1991 adaptation directed by Scorsese which memorably starred Robert De Niro as Cady.
Bardem is coming off his first television series with Netflix’s “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story”.
