Simon Kinberg has reportedly signed an expansive deal with Lucasfilm to write and produce a new trilogy of “Star Wars” films reports THR.
Kinberg will write the scripts and spearhead the new saga’s launch with the hope being this will offer a “new path forward” for the sci-fi fantasy series.
As such, it will NOT be a continuation of the Skywalker Saga and so this won’t be Episodes 10-12 per se. Instead it will be brand new characters and a new story with no continuation plans – though character returns aren’t ruled out.
Lucasfilm chief Kathleen Kennedy will also produce.
Kinberg co-created the animated series “Star Wars: Rebels” with Dave Filoni and Carrie Beck. He also served as consultant on 2015’s “Star Wars: The Force Awakens”.
He’s mostly famous as a producer on the “X-Men” films and first two “Deadpool” films and is currently helping develop “Star Trek” ar Paramount.
The likes of Rian Johnson along with David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have signed on to develop new “Star Wars” trilogies in the past but nothing has made it out of development over the years.
