Netflix, and the creators of its popular “Outer Banks” TV series, have announced that the series has been renewed for a fifth and final season.
The renewal order comes days before the five-episode second half of season four debuts on the streamer on November 7th and just after the Poguelandia fan convention for the series was held over the weekend in Los Angeles.
The first half of season four debuted on October 10th and has was No. 1 on Netflix’s English-language TV charts for two weeks, while the second and third seasons were among the most-watched original streaming series of their years in the U.S. according to Nielsen.
Series creators Shannon Burke, Josh Pate and Jonas Pate have penned a letter on Monday addressed to ‘all Pogues’ and says:
“In the summer of 2017, we came across a photo of teenagers on a beach at dusk during a power outage. That photo sparked an idea for a story of four best friends who only want to have a good time all the time. From this beginning, we imagined a mystery that would lead to a five-season journey of adventure, treasure hunting, and friendship.
At the time, seven years ago, it seemed impossible that we would really get to tell the whole five-season story, but here we are, at the end of our fourth season, still chopping away.
Now, with a little sadness, but also excitement, we’re putting season four behind us, and are turning to season five, in which we hope to bring our beloved Pogues home in the way we imagined and planned years ago. Season five will be our last season, and we think it will be our best yet.”
Chase Stokes, Madelyn Cline, Madison Bailey, Jonathan Daviss, Rudy Pankow, Carlacia Grant, Drew Starkey, Austin North, Fiona Palomo, J. Anthony Crane, Pollyanna McIntosh, Brianna Brown, Rigo Sanchez, Mia Challis and Cullen Moss star.
Writing on the final season has begun, though no production and release dates are yet to be determined.
