First reported nearly three weeks ago, Kelly Macdonald is now confirmed to have joined the cast of HBO and DC Studios’ high-profile superhero crime series “Lanterns”.
Boasting a gritty “True Detective” vibe, the series follows Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler), a legend amongst the space police force known as the Green Lanterns. He is reluctantly mentoring John Stewart (Aaron Pierre), a younger Green Lantern.
The two intergalactic cops get drawn into a dark, Earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland. The series marks the first major TV endeavor from DC Studios heads James Gunn and Peter Safran.
Macdonald will play Sheriff Kerry, a no-nonsense woman devoted to her family and her close-knit town. Shaped by a complex past that’s hardened her resolve, she tries to stay grounded as her community’s secrets begin to surface.
Scottish actress Macdonald is a veteran of film and television, having won a BAFTA Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and four Screen Actors Guild Awards. Her film work has ranged from films like “Elizabeth,” “No Country for Old Man,” “Finding Neverland,” “Brave” and “Trainspotting” to TV work in “State of Play,” “Line of Duty,” “Boardwalk Empire,” and “Giri/Haji”.
James Hawes (“Slow Horses”) will helm the first two episodes of the eight episode run of “Lanterns”. Chris Mundy (“Ozark”), Damon Lindelof (“Watchmen”) and Eisner Award-winning comic book writer Tom King are executive producing and writing, with Mundy showrunning.
