Yay! It’s big and dumb and we just don’t care. Extraction movies are antidotes to modern movies. Entirely free of “The Message” and simply a series of excellently executed action vignettes where a heroic male lead punches, shoots, and explodes his way out of situations, filling countless bodybags with villains on the way. Simple, simply executed, and simply fun.

So bring us more Extraction and Outposters, being the simple beings we are, will be happy.

Well… good news everyone.

“Good news, everyone!”

Filmmakers and producers Joe and Anthony Russo have confirmed a third entry in the franchise is go! They were out promoting Electric State and they were asked about the franchise by Collider, so Joe Russo confirmed:

“We’re in the middle of working on that story right now. Hard at work. We’re hoping to go into production on it next year. It’s definitely filming next year. I’m just being cagey because it’s more fun.”

He also confirmed that Idris Elba’s character, revealed in the last movie, is planned to return:

“Yes, we know who that character is. It was built that way. If you like that relationship between Idris and Chris [Hemsworth], you’re gonna enjoy Extraction 3 .”

2020’s Extraction introduced us to Australian former SAS operative turned black ops mercenary Tyler Rake. It was the most-watched original film in Netflix history, which was one in the eye of sniffy critics who didn’t like it much.

A 2026 release is likely.
