La Bola Negra (The Black Ball)
Los Javis’s Spanish-language Oscar hopeful “La Bola Negra” is set to have hte longest theatrical run in Netflix history – the title hits cinemas October 16th ahead of a December 4th bow on the service – a gap of 47 days.
It beats the previous record-holder, Noah Baumbach’s relationship drama “Marriage Story,” which had a full 30-day window in 2019. The film spans 85 years of Spanish history, from the 1930s to the present day, and draws on an unfinished fragment by poet and playwright Federico García Lorca. [Source: Variety]
The Housemaid’s Secret
Brittany Snow will join Sydney Sweeney, Kirsten Dunst and Paul Anthony Kelly in “The Housemaid’s Secret,” the sequel to last year’s box office sleeper hit “The Housemaid” which will begin shooting later this year ahead of a December 2027 release.
The story follows Sweeney’s Millie who works as a live-in maid in a house for a woman she’s never allowed to see. Snow will play the character Marybeth, an unassuming receptionist at the husband’s company. [Source: Variety]
Deadlocked
Oscar winner Jamie Foxx will lead the Nikhil Bhat-directed action feature “Deadlocked” at Amazon MGM Studios. Eric Scot Anderson (“The Black Fox”) and Matt Takejiro Bosack (“NCIS: Hawai’i”) penned the script.
The story follows a grieving former Marine serving jury duty who is forced back into action when the trial of the century turns into a deadly hostage situation as the defendant’s daughter seizes the courthouse to free her father. Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger produce. [Source: Deadline]
Poetic License
Maude Apatow’s directorial debut “Poetic License” has been picked up for release by Sony Pictures Classics following a distribution mess with original buyer Row K Entertainment.
Leslie Mann and Cooper Hoffman lead the film about a former therapist and soon-to-be empty nester who relocates to a new town for her husband’s job. Her quiet attempt to settle in takes an unexpected turn when she becomes the point of tension between two inseparable best friends. [Source: Variety]
