Denis Villeneuve’s film adaptation of “Dune Messiah” appears to have set a filming window.
In today’s THR piece about Tom Holland boarding filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s next film, it’s indicated that filming on “Spider-Man 4” was delayed long enough that his co-star Zendaya “will now be shooting Dune 3 in early 2026 rather than next year”.
It’s expected that Holland will film his “Avengers: Doomsday” scenes and the Nolan film in the first half of 2025, then he and Zendaya will film “Spider-Man 4” in the back half of 2025 with her going on to film “Dune Messiah” in early 2026.
Zendaya also has filming commitments for the third season of “Euphoria” which is expected to take place in early 2025. Another potential reason for the 2026 shoot is cinematographer Greig Fraser who will be lensing Matt Reeves’ “The Batman: Part II” from April to October next year.
The film should see the return of several key talents from the prior two films including Timothee Chalamet as Paul Atreides, Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Javier Bardem as Stilgar, Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam and Jason Momoa as a new version of Duncan Idaho.
As Villeneuve has previously indicated, the film will close out the Paul Atreides story and will mark Villeneuve’s last foray into this universe. Going by the filming date, the title will now likely hit cinemas in mid-late 2027 – making the gap between each of the films around three years.
