Edgar Wright’s remake of “The Running Man” has locked in a November 21st 2025 release date, and scored “Love Lies Bleeding” actress Katy O’Brian as its female co-star according to THR

The Glen Powell-led film is a new adaptation of the 1982 Stephen King novel which was penned under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. That book was set in 2025 in America under a totalitarian regime that uses violent game shows to placate the disenfranchised masses.

One desperate man, needing money for his sick daughter, joins the most popular show in which teams of killers hunt down contestants. The longer one survives, the more money that person makes.

But as the game show’s producers and killers will find out, this desperate man will break all the rules and expose the show’s dark secrets. Powell will play the man, while O’Brian is a fellow contestant.

The property was previously adapted to the big screen in 1987 as an Arnold Schwarzenegger-led film. Wright has been attached to the project since 2021 and will produce alongside Nira Park and Simon Kinberg. He co-wrote the new script with Michael Bacall.

Paramount also pushed back “The Naked Gun” reboot two weeks to August 1st, the animated “Smurfs” musical five months to July 18th and the Dakota Fanning-led horror movie “Vicious” to February 28th.
