Paramount Pictures is developing a live-action/CG-animation hybrid feature based on the beloved 1990s animated children’s TV series “Rugrats”.

The project will take the “Sonic the Hedgehog” and “Alvin and the Chipmunks” approach of having the babies animated and interacting in a real-world environment and human adult roles.

However, it’s unclear which characters from the original series will be appearing including Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Angelica Pickles, Dil Pickles, Phil and Lil DeVille, and dog Spike among others.

Jason Moore (“Sisters”) is directing the film with “Saturday Night Live” actor Mikey Day and head writer Streeter Seidell penning the script. Karen Rosenfelt is producing.

The original Nickelodeon series began in 1991 and ran for nine seasons and 172 episodes along with three theatrically released movies and a Paramount+ reboot in 2021.
