Apple TV+ had announced that its Colin Farrell-led genre-bending neo-noir thriller “Sugar” has been renewed for a second season.

Farrell is set to reprise his role as Detective John Sugar in the contemporary-set Los Angeles private detective series which premiered back in April and scored good reviews.

The first season saw Sugar recruited by a wealthy movie producer to investigate the disappearance of his granddaughter. In the second, Sugar is back in Los Angeles taking on another missing person’s case, as he continues to look for answers surrounding his missing sister.

Mark Protosevich created and Sam Catlin showruns the series that made headlines for a midway twist that impacts the entire premise and genre of the series.

Kirby, Amy Ryan, James Cromwell, Anna Gunn, Dennis Boutsikaris, Nate Corddry, Sydney Chandler and Alex Hernandez co-starred in that first season.

Directing duties on the first season were split between TV veteran Adam Arkin and famed filmmaker Fernando Meirelles (“City of God,” “The Constant Gardener”. Audrey Chon and Simon Kinberg executive produce.
