Bethesda Game Studios executive producer and director Todd Howard says that his company’s games are ‘irresponsibly large’ – and there’s a reason for it.
Bethesda games have been on the receiving end of some criticism for years in part for the size of their open-world games and mostly about the bugs that come with games of such size.
This was most recently seen with the launch of “Starfield” which landed very good critical reviews, but a more mixed audience reception due to the bugs, and some issues with its story and playability.
Howard recently recorded an interview with BAFTA (via VGC) speaking about his work and says the studio rarely cuts any content from their games, which is why they’re so big:
“My job on the games often is to be the director… I’m in a really unique position to work with so many amazing people and bring all of that together. Actually, we cut very little from our games at Bethesda, which is why the games are so irresponsibly large.”
The comments come as Starfield’s first big expansion, “Shattered Space,” released today on Xbox Series X/S and PC and is said to be comparable in scale to the “Far Harbor” expansion of “Fallout 4”.
