By A new report indicates that Irish actress Saoirse Ronan, coming off rave reviews for her work as a recovering alcoholic in “The Outrun” and likely about to get more for Steve McQueen’s “Blitz,” has joined Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia” project.
World of Reel broke the report, saying she had landed an undisclosed supporting role in the film which would mark her third team-up with Gerwig following “Lady Bird” and “Little Women”.
If accurate it would mark the first casting on the project to date. Earlier this year reports emerged that “Enola Holmes” actor Louis Partridge was cast in the film, but that report was quickly shot down.
The project, the first of at least two movies based on the books, was originally aiming to begin shooting this Fall. Now it’s looking likely to be delayed until 2025.
Back in November last year, Netflix executive Scott Stuber surprisingly revealed the plan was to take the arc of the entire seven-book series and adapt it for the screen with the most famous title “The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe” likely to be front and center.
Netflix took over the franchise in 2018 when it announced plans to team up with The C.S. Lewis Company in a multi-year deal to produce series and movies based on the books that have sold more than 100 million copies.
