Squid Game, and the whole cultural excitement around it, seems like a lifetime ago now. It was 2021, in the depths of COVID, where streaming was the future and a sneeze was enough to get you ostracised from friends and family.
Squid Game was a thing. It was a craze. If we weren’t banned from congregating around water coolers because somebody in a Chinese lab left the fridge door open, then we would have all been talking about it around those watercoolers. The first season was critically acclaimed, with six Emmys, and remains Netflix’s most-watched single season of any series to date.
It will be over three years by the time the second season arrives, and now it has a first trailer. This follows a brief teaser in mid-August.
It ended with Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) vowing revenge, and joining the game again to take out his anger on Front Man (Lee Byung-hun).
Season three was shot simultaneously with season two and then, when that session ends, that is it. Squid Game will be concluded and there will be no more.
Wi Ha-jun and Gong Yoo return from the first season. New joiners are Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Gyu-young, Lee Jin-uk, Park Sung-hoon, Yang Dong-geun, Kang Ae-sim, Lee David, Choi Seung-hyun, Roh Jae-won, Jo Yu-ri, and Won Ji-an.
Executive producer, writer and director Hwang Dong-hyuk created the series and is the showrunner for these two seasons.
Squid Game season two arrives on Netflix on December 26th.
