After many years in development, there finally appears to be movement on Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of the Christ” sequel.
Italian news agency Italpress (via Collider) reports that Gibson is currently in Malta with a production team, scouting potential filming locations for “The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection” some twenty years after the first film was released.
Gibson is reportedly on a five-day trip that will involve meetings with government officials on the Mediterranean island.
“Sound of Freedom” and”Person of Interest” star Jim Caviezel has confirmed his return as Jesus in the sequel, with filming expected to begin early next year after Gibson finishes promoting his action thriller “Flight Risk” opening in January.
Gibson and co-writer Randall Wallace reportedly have penned many drafts over the years with Wallace confirming in April that work on the script was finally complete.
Gibson previously teased a few years back the film won’t have a linear narrative and likely have more of a supernatural focus.
