Dave Bautista is well known for his roles in genre movies with action, sci-fi or horror elements, and has several acclaimed drama and comedy turns under his belt as well.
One thing we have yet to see him do though is lead a romantic comedy. Bautista is well aware of this, stating in early 2023 he’d like to star in a rom-com but hasn’t any offers to do so.
At the time he told Page Six he knows he’s “not your typical rom-com lead” but did wonder why he’s excluded from those typed of parts. Cut to a year and a half later and he tells THR this week that he received a “lot of phone calls” after those comments were published.
As a result, he will now star in at least one that’s currently in development:
“I said that and started getting calls immediately. So we’ve got a couple that we’re developing that are actually really funny…making my way there, like a full-on rom-com. Not like an action rom-com, a full-on rom-com.”
Bautista also says he hopes to make more smaller, independent movies in the coming years. As the actor recently explained to Chris Van Vliet, he has lost a lot of weight – dropping 75 pounds since filming “Knock at the Cabin” almost two years ago.
His newest film, “The Killer’s Game,” opens in cinemas September 13th.
