By “Creed” star Michael B. Jordan has signed to direct the third take on “The Thomas Crown Affair” for Amazon MGM Studios.
Jordan has been attached to star in and produce the project as far back as 2016, but his signing on as director is entirely new and follows his well-received work directing the third “Creed” film at Amazon MGM.
Norman Jewison helmed the 1968 original ‘Thomas Crow’ which followed a rich playboy (Steve McQueen) who orchestrates a Boston bank robbery. A female insurance investigator (Faye Dunaway) is contracted to investigate the heist and she quickly deduces his guilt and goes after him.
So begins an often romantic game of cat and mouse between the two, with she having to make a decision about what she intends to do.
The project was remade in 1999 by John McTiernan and starred Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo. That switched the heist to the art world and both upped the chemistry and cleverness of the heists, becoming one of the few remakes that’s often considered better than its original.
Drew Pearce wrote the script for the new film and the plan is reportedly to release it exclusively in theaters worldwide. Jordan’s Outlier Society has a first-look film deal and overall TV deal at Amazon MGM.
Patrick McCormick and Marc Toberoff will also produce. Jordan recently wrapped production on Ryan Coogler’s upcoming ‘period vampire’ event film at Warner Bros. Pictures.
