Ubisoft Massive’s Julian Gerighty, the creative director of the recently released “Star Wars Outlaws” game, says that he’s a bit disappointed with the game’s critical reception.
The game has racked up scores of 75-77 across the formats on Metacritic, suggesting a decent but far from great game.
It came in behind the mid-80s scores of “Jedi: Survivor” and early 80s scores of recent “Assassin’s Creed” games also from Ubisoft, and is more in line with “Far Cry 6” and “Star Wars: Battlefront” (2015).
Speaking to GamesRadar, Gerighty says he hoped the scores would be a bit higher:
“I’m a little disappointed with the Metacritic; Of course, recognition from press and critics is very important to us, but players are really connecting with what we did. [The] level of pride, happiness, and sense of accomplishment amongst the team, and there’s still more to come from the game.
This will be a game that millions of people are going to play for years and years, and we’re never going to stop improving it. Well, that’s a lie, we’ll probably stop improving it, but today my mind is not on stopping improving it.”
In the wake of the game’s release, Ubisoft’s share price has dropped to its lowest level since 2015 with that both a poorer than expected commercial start for ‘Outlaws’ and a sharp fall in interest in free-to-play shooter “XDefiant”.
