The other day came a report that Josh Brolin has been offered the role of Green Lantern incarnation Hal Jordan in the upcoming DC “Lanterns” series at HBO.

Now, a follow-up by Jeff Sneider indicates that both Ewan McGregor and Matthew McConaughey have been cited as potential back-up choices in case Brolin declines.

All three actors are aged in the early-mid 50s which suggests the series has a specific reason for this older take on the character. Justin Britt-Gibson, Breannah Gibson and Vanessa Baden Kelly are also rumored to be onboard.

The series, said to be in the vein of “True Detective,” follows new recruit John Stewart and Lantern legend Hal Jordan, two intergalactic cops drawn into a dark, earth-based mystery as they investigate a murder in the American heartland.

The series is set to be executive produced by Chris Mundy (“True Detective: Night Country,” “Ozark”), Damon Lindelof (“The Leftovers,” “Watchmen”) and Tom King (“Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow”) with the latter two co-writing the series. Stephen Williams is reportedly in talks to direct the pilot.

The show, a part of James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, has already received an official straight-to-series-order. Filming is slated to begin early 2025 in the United Kingdom ahead of a 2026 release.
