Ryan Reynolds has confirmed in a deleted scene posted to his social media account that Channing Tatum‘s Gambit lives on at the end of “Deadpool & Wolverine”.
The brief video sees the character from behind, walking in the middle of a few slain henchmen before he turns around and grins.
At the same time the lighting and reflection in his eyes indicate a Doctor Strange-style sling ring portal has opened which appears to be what he’s looking at.
Reynolds adds that a version of the sequence is in the film – on one of the monitors in the deep background of the TVA.
The reveal comes after the film itself ended with multiple characters coming together to defeat Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin) and it’s not clear who survived the battle.
Officially at present there’s no Gambit projects in the works, but the deleted scenes suggest he he could return for a stand-alone film, or more likely appear in another MCU film with other heroes (eg. “Avengers: Secret Wars”).
Tatum was famously set to portray the Cajun mutant in a stand-alone film before it was canceled after Disney acquired 21st Century Fox.
