Everyone knows that season one of Andor was, by some distance, the single best thing Disney has done with Star Wars since they bought it.
It was a tantalizing glimpse of what could be done in that universe if the actual grown-ups were in charge rather than the deeply miserable cat-ladies who usually call the shots on this stuff.
A deep look at how a galaxy-spanning despotic dictatorship actually holds onto power.
How the veneer of democracy is ever thinning, and how squeezing too tight gives rise to rebellions, even as the political classes find the comfort of their own homes fractured by disagreements over policy.
It asks the question “How far is too far?” while ruminating on duty and sacrifice. Who would you really have been in early Nazi Germany? Andor started asking the same question of people in the Star Wars universe.
Potential greatness lurks in this show and it should be showing Lucasfilm the way… except they are too fucking stupid to understand.
Well, next year the whole thing comes to an end, as the makers of this show also understand quality over quantity. The second season of Andor will be the last, and will be set over four years leading directly up to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
Alan Tudyk returns as the reprogrammed Imperial droid K-2SO, with Ben Mendelsohn as Imperial Director Krennic. Kyle Soller, Adria Arjona, Stellan Skarsgård, Genevieve O’Reilly, Denise Gough, and Forest Whitaker also all return.
Now, in an interview with EW, writer/showrunner / holder back of Kathleen Kennedy’s hordes Tony Gilroy says this season will change something. Specifically how you see Rogue One as a complete movie:
“I think people watching Rogue One, after watching season 2, are going to see a different film. Everything will be signified differently knowing what had to happen for K-2 to be there. It’s going to make you witness the journey of Rogue One in a different way, I think.
And not just with K-2, but with many other characters. I think it’ll be really cool. You’re going to see why K-2 is so important in Rogue One, and how does he get to be such an important character for the Rebellion.”
Andor will arrive on Disney+ next year, but a date is not yet set. When it does arrive, hopefully, it can wash away the stench of The Acolyte.
