Paramount Pictures is reportedly deep in development on a sequel to 2019’s acclaimed alligator creature feature “Crawl” with shooting aiming to begin this Fall in Europe.

Andrew Deutschman and Jason Pagan (“Paranormal Activity: The Ghost Dimension,” “Project Almanac”) are writing the script with French filmmaker Alexandre Aja back to direct again.

The first film is set in the middle of a Florida coastal community being hit by a tropical hurricane. A young woman (Kaya Scodelario) races to her father’s house to find him (Barry Pepper).

Instead, she finds herself and the injured dad trapped in a slowly flooding basement with at least two hungry alligators. She somehow has to find a way out before they drown and without being eaten.

The film proved a profitable hit for Paramount, generating $91.5 million from a budget of under $14 million. It also drew some quite vocal fans, including Quentin Tarantino who put it in his Top 10 of the year.

Also back for the sequel as producers are Craig Flores and Sam Raimi. The new film will reportedly feature a new cast and a new location – the urban dangers of New York City.
