A new report indicates that Ben Affleck is eyeing the role of wrestler Hulk Hogan for the new film “Killing Gawker” according to PWInsider.
The outlet indicates the film is currently being set up at Affleck and Matt Damon’s Artist Equity production company and is targeting a January filming start.
Should it go forward, Affleck and Damon would not only produce but co-star with Affleck as Hogan and Damon as billionaire investor Peter Thiel.
The screenplay, penned by “The Big Short” scribe Charles Randolph, has been around for a while and is based on Ryan Holiday’s 2018 book “Conspiracy: Peter Thiel, Hulk Hogan, Gawker, and the Anatomy of Intrigue”.
The book dealt with the lawsuit WWE Hall of Famer Hogan filed against the now-defunct celebrity gossip website Gawker. Thiel, a former CEO of Paypal, funded Hogan’s lawsuit in secret.
Hogan ended up winning a judgment for $115 million in damages and Gawker was shuttered. The book was previously optioned back at the time of release, but that has presumably lapsed.
A Hulk Hogan biopic has long been talked about at Netflix with Chris Hemsworth starring and Todd Phillips directing, one of the big reasons Hemsworth got so big for “Thor: Love and Thunder” was his preparation for the role. However, Hogan revealed last year that the film is no longer moving forward at the streamer.
