In the wake of Disney adding two new untitled Marvel films to its release calendar in mid-late 2027, speculation is high regarding which films will be taking those slots.
For now, Marvel’s Phase Six is murky – there are four announced projects so far starting with the currently in production “The Fantastic Four: First Steps” due out in July next year.
Also set are “Avengers: Doomsday” and “Avengers: Secret Wars” which are locked in for May 2026 and May 2027 releases and with filming set to begin in March next year on the first of those.
The fourth is “Blade” and while it has a November 2025 release date staked out, few believe it’ll reach that date. But what else will take the four dates set aside for currently untitled Marvel films – Feb 2026, Nov 2026, July 2027 and November 2027.
The other month came news that Rafe Judkins and Michael Lesslie were in the mix to pen the script for an “X-Men” film but no filmmaker or casting for that is locked in as yet.
Cut to today and a Production Weekly listing (via World of Reel) indicates the film is targeting a late 2025 start of shooting but offers no details about actors, story or director as yet.
If true, a late 2025 shoot for what will undoubtedly be an FX-heavy film suggests it could take one of the post-Secret Wars 2027 slots. Many have speculated that the new “Avengers” films will bring the X-Men fully into the MCU – this would fit in with that speculation.
“Armor Wars” and “Shang-Chi 2” have previously been rumored to commence filming in early 2025 so they’re the likeliest to take the 2026 slots, and there’s no telling when a fourth “Spider-Man” with Tom Holland will arrive as it’s a Sony film and thus will have its own date separate from these. Online rumors today have speculated a third “Doctor Strange” is coming sooner rather than later as well.
A clearer idea of Marvel’s Phase Six plans is expected to be revealed as part of a panel next Friday night at the D23 convention in Los Angeles.
