This weekend’s “Twisters” is reportedly on track for a $50-55 million domestic start and a $45-50 million overseas weekend this coming Friday-Sunday at the box-office.
Presales are reportedly in line with 20th Century Studios’ “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes” which opened to $58.4 million at the domestic box-office.
Combined with the $12.5 million take the film already earned from its early opening last weekend in select international markets, and the movie is expected to easily surpass the $100 million mark by end of Sunday.
The domestic debut will easily outpace the $41 million opening weekend of the 1996 original, though adjusted for inflation the Jan deBont-helmed original film’s haul will be effectively double that amount.
“Twisters” will be getting full IMAX, PLFS, ScreenX, and more support. Much of Europe, the UK and China get the film this weekend with Korea and Japan receiving it at a later date.
The release comes one week ahead of Marvel Studios’ “Deadpool & Wolverine” opening next Friday that’s expected to dominate the box-office of 2024 with a domestic start three times that of “Twisters”.
