With nearly a year still to go before the release of the movie, Apple Original Films dropped the first trailer for the Brad Pitt-led F1 during the British Grand Prix at the weekend.
Oscar winner Pitt will play a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris (Snowfall) as his teammate on the fictional APXGP team, who will do battle with other, real teams from Formula 1.
The ultra-glamorous, global Formula 1 season will be the backdrop for all the drama as we follow the team through the high-stakes, mega-wealthy world at the pinnacle of motorsport.
Kerry Condon, Javier Bardem, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo will co-star. The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick) and is made with the full cooperation of Formula 1, filmed in and around their races over the last couple of seasons.
There has been much talk about the budget. As the trailer dropped, producer Jerry Bruckheimer gave an interview and dismissed talk of the budget hitting the discussed level and said they are in a much better position:
This is what Bruckheimer told Deadline:
“It’s completely, unfortunately, tens of millions of dollars out of whack in the wrong direction, and in the right direction for us.
What people don’t realize is, first of all, we’re shooting in rebate [locations], England has a big rebate, lots of Europe has rebates and so does Abu Dhabi. It all lowers the budget.
Plus, we’ve raised more money for our car [through sponsorship] than some Formula 1 teams. You take that all into consideration and it really drops that number quite a bit lower than what people would think.”
He also dismissed rumors of reshoots, and said instead they were very creative with how they used strike-related downtime:
“We never re-shot anything, nothing whatsoever. It’s a misnomer, a rumor that got spread. No, once the strike happened, we just focused on the cars, and focused on the driving [with the stunt drivers, not the actors]. We made a smaller unit, cut down our staff and everything to save money. And then we just carried on to all the different tracks. We basically finished all the second unit stuff.”
F1 will be released internationally on June 25th 2025, and arrive in US theaters two days later on June 27th.
