The SDCC news is starting to pick up and this is something interesting to start the week.
ElectricNOW, Electric Entertainment’s premium OTT app and FAST channel, has joined forces with ComicsBeat, the award-winning website covering the world of comics and comics culture, to produce Con Daily Powered by ComicsBeat on ElectricNOW. This new show will give viewers access to top talent attending the iconic San Diego Comic-Con and a run-down of the show’s activities. The program coincides with ComicsBeat’s 20th Anniversary and will stream exclusively on ElectricNOW throughout the Convention’s run. The announcement was made jointly today by Dean Devlin, CEO of Electric Entertainment and Heidi MacDonald, Founder and Editor in Chief of ComicsBeat.
Dean Devlin states, “I recall going to early Comic-Cons to promote my films such as ‘Independence Day’ and ‘Stargate,’ long before it became the mainstream sensation it is today. I always felt the special sense of community the convention brought to fantasy and sci-fi fans. Now, collaborating with the award-winning website ComicsBeat, allows me to provide viewers at home who cannot make it to the show with an up-close and behind-the-scenes experience.”
Con Daily Powered by ComicsBeat on ElectricNOW will consist of four special episodes to premiere after each day of Comic-Con, hosted by high-profile online personalities, including Yael Tygiel, Reagan Yorke, Celia Schilling and Kari Lane. Each episode will stream exclusively on ElectricNOW. One-on-one interviews with top celebrities, celebrity casts from the biggest TV shows and films from the world of Comic-Con and pop culture influencers will be highlighted throughout the show. Each episode will end with a no-holds-barred panel featuring Con Daily correspondents giving a round-up of events at the show and the day’s news.
Heidi MacDonald continues, “ComicsBeat is thrilled to partner with Dean Devlin and ElectricNOW to bring the excitement of the San Diego Comic-Con to viewers at home via Con Daily Powered by ComicsBeat on ElectricNOW. As a pop culture writer, I’ve always admired Dean’s independence and innovation and his understanding of what makes people love great stories. We’re also totally delighted to be working once again with Yael and Patrick (Meaney) – no one knows Comic-Con and pop culture like they do, and together, we’re going to give everyone an unprecedented and entertaining inside look at the Con.”
The show will be produced by Lucas Thompson of ElectricNOW and directed by Patrick Meaney, well known for his documentaries including Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods, Neil Gaiman: Dream Dangerously, Chris Claremont’s X-Men and The Image Revolution
