The fourth season of Amazon’s “The Boys” has been making headlines for the backlash from some of its fanbase – none of it has stopped people from tuning in though.
The streamer has announced that the first three episodes of the new season released last week saw an increase of 21% in viewership over its first four days compared to the similar three-episode, third-season launch.
Exact figures were not provided, but Amazon states this marks the show’s fourth consecutive season of growth and puts it among the streamer’s five biggest TV seasons ever when measuring four days of premiere viewership.
In terms of returning seasons, the fourth season launch of “The Boys” came in only behind the second season of “Reacher” in December last year.
Whilst so much of the chatter about the series has been about its U.S. political leanings, it seems much of the audience doesn’t care as 60% of the show’s viewers are located outside of the United States.
The UK, Brazil and India are big drivers of the show’s success, and the new season was Prime Video’s No. 1 title in 160 countries after those four days.
Despite the divided reaction, one element getting growing approval is a push for actor Antony Starr to get awards recognition for his widely praised performance as the sinister Homelander in the series. Showrunner Eric Kripke asking on X to “give the man an Emmy”.
New episodes of the series are dropping weekly until the finale on July 18th. A fifth and final season is also in the works along with a second season of spin-off “Gen V”.
