Mattel, Inc. is teaming with Universal Pictures and producer/screenwriter Akiva Goldsman’s Weed Road banner for a live-action theatrical release film adaptation of the “Monster High” franchise.
The new film, currently in development, will boast an original story based on the popular line of fashion dolls conceived as the children of legendary monsters.
The dolls were introduced in 2010 and the property was previously adapted for the screen as fifteen animated TV specials over a seven-year span.
More recently, an animated series premiered on Nickelodeon in 2022 and is currently in its second season, while a live-action film and a sequel premiered directly on Nickelodeon and Paramount+ in 2022 and 2023 respectively.
Mattel Films president Robbie Brenner says in a statement:
“‘Monster High’ helps fans discover the great beauty in being true to yourself and celebrates the unique sensibilities at the core of who we are as individuals.
We’re proud to partner with Universal Pictures and the brilliant Akiva Goldsman to usher this important message to audiences worldwide.”
Goldsman is also producing the Tom Hanks-led “Major Matt Mason” movie with Mattel and is slated to produce sequels to “Constantine” and “I Am Legend”.
