By Amazon Prime’s “Fallout” launched two months ago and in the time since has been a major hit on multiple levels.
The show drew critical acclaim, it has pulled in major record numbers for Amazon, and even now it’s still generating plenty of ‘water cooler talk’ despite a binge model release.
Appearing on a recent THR Presents panel, showrunner Graham Wagner says the show’s popularity is an “immense surprise”. He confirms he and Geneva Robertson-Dworet are in the writer’s room for the second season right now.
Robertson-Dworet says they plan to keep mining the game’s mythology for new story elements: “We’re always going to be bringing in new things from the Fallout mythology as we move forward with the show.”
Asked about how many potential seasons they see for the series, Wagner says:
“Our hope is to end every season with a semi-satisfying, semi-open-ended kind of shape. Look, we’ve talked about three seasons and we’ve talked about five seasons. Given the success of the show, five is suddenly feeling a little more appealing. But the industry is a temperamental thing and we kind of have to go into each season being like, ‘This is our last.’”
Asked how long before fans can expect to see the second season on the air, Wagner says:
“The internet has an interesting habit of making non-binding statements binding, so I’m hesitant to give a date that will be taken out of context and live on Reddit for a year or so.
But we are going as fast as we possibly can, and we’ve got a lot of heavy lifting from Season 1 already done. We have sets, assets, visual effects, that are already done.
We are hitting the ground running this season. We’re going to be pedal to the metal to get season two out as fast as humanly possible.”
Production on the show’s second season moves to California from New York, with the producers indicating it should make production much smoother – especially in terms of weather.
