Sony Pictures announced on Thursday that its new “I Know What You Did Last Summer” film will be released in cinemas on July 18th 2025.
At least two of the original four stars are expected to return for the new entry which hails from director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson (“Do Revenge”). Freddie Prinze Jr. is a confirmed one, though there seems to be confusion as to whether Jennifer Love Hewitt or Sarah Michelle Gellar is the other with the former linked a year ago, the latter in the new piece.
Leah McKendrick (“Scrambled”) scripted the film but plot specifics are under wraps. Neil Moritz is producing.
The original 1997 film also starred Jennifer Love Hewitt and Ryan Phillippe and follows four friends who accidentally run over a pedestrian on a coastal road one night.
In their panic, they decide to dispose of the body in the ocean and vow never to speak of the incident again. A year later, they start receiving cryptic messages from someone who seems to know about their dark secret.
Soon a mysterious figure wielding a hook is in pursuit of them. The film was such a success it spawned two sequels and even a short-lived TV series.
