Ron Moore’s acclaimed alternate history series “For All Mankind” is often considered one of the most underappreciated critically acclaimed TV series on the air.
Apple, who produces the series with Sony Pictures Television, is very much sticking by the show it seems with the tech giant handing out a fifth season renewal order for the show.
Not only that, but they’ve also ordered a spinoff series following the Soviet space race titled “Star City”. Moore, Matt Wolpert and Ben Nedivi co-created the show with the latter duo set to showrun both programs.
“Star City” is dubbed a “propulsive paranoid thriller” that takes us back to the key moment in this screen universe when the Soviet Union became the first nation to put a man on the moon.
In a statement announcing the news Wednesday, Wolpert and Nedivi say:
“Our fascination with the Soviet space program has grown with every season of For All Mankind. The more we learned about this secret city in the forests outside Moscow where the Soviet cosmonauts and engineers worked and lived, the more we wanted to tell this story of the other side of the space race. We could not be more excited to continue building out the alternate history universe of For All Mankind with our partners at Apple and Sony.”
Maril Davis, David Weddle, Bradley Thompson, Seth Edelstein and Kira Snyder will also executive produce the spin-off. The news follows in the wake of “Monarch: Legacy of Monsters” also scoring a renewal and spin-offs.
