The long-running USA Network series “Monk,” which ended in 2009, was revived recently with “Mr. Monk’s Last Case: A Monk Movie”, which debuted in December on the Peacock service.
That film saw Tony Shalhoub’s iconic San Francisco-based detective with obsessive-compulsive disorder returning to solve a very personal case involving his stepdaughter Molly.
Several original cast members also returned including Ted Levine, Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford, Melora Hardin and Hector Elizondo. As the film did well, could we see another?
Even though the title suggests this was a one-off, creator Andy Breckman hinted at more during a panel at Deadline’s Contenders Television event – saying he is totally game to “explore another chapter” and that “this is my retirement plan.”
Peacock hasn’t released any details as to how the film did in terms of viewership. Critics wise it fared quite well – snagging multiple award nominations and overall quite good reviews.
The original “Monk” ran for 125 episodes over eight seasons with the finale drawing in 9.4 million viewers – making it the most-watched scripted cable television drama from 2009 to 2012.
