Heather Locklear, Laura Leighton and Daphne Zuniga are all reuniting for a reboot of iconic 1990s primetime soap “Melrose Place” currently in development at CBS Studios.
Written by Lauren Gussis (“Insatiable”), the new “Melrose Place” picks up years after the Darren Star-created original series and will offer an update on the beloved characters.
The original aired for seven seasons from 1992-99 and followed the lives of a group of young adults living in an apartment complex in West Hollywood.
The new one, which will ignore the events of the prior 2009 single season revival on The CW, begins when one of the original gang dies – leading to the original residents gathering to honor the deceased. The reunion soon uncovers old traumas, rekindles old romances, reignites old resentments, and reveals new secrets.
Whilst it’s expected to have all the shock and chaos of the prior incarnation, it will also offer a more “modern perspective”. Locklear, Leighton and Zuniga will reprise their roles of Amanda Woodward, Sydney Andrews and Jo Reynolds, respectively.
Locklear was on for the series’ entire seven-season run, Zuniga on the first four and Leighton on the first five. More original cast members are expected to join the reboot if it moves forward.
Gussis, Leighton, Zuniga, Tiffany Grant and Jason Weinberg are executive producing. The project is currently being shopped to networks and streamers.
