Kevin Costner hasn’t been in the director’s chair for just over 20 years. He directed Dances With Wolves, won a few of Oscars, then did The Postman and then I think they asked for the Oscars back. Open Range was in 2003, but since then, he’s been enjoying acting and producing.

Recently he has been known for Yellow Stone, a Western, sort of. Horizon: An American Saga is a Western. And it’s going to be epic, so epic it’s going to be in two parts. The story is:

Chronicles a multi-faceted, 15-year span of pre-and post-Civil War expansion and settlement of the American west.

That sounds like Red Dead Redemption 2. The official plot summary from Warner Brothers is:

“In the great tradition of Warner Bros. Pictures’ iconic Westerns, Horizon: An American Saga explores the lure of the Old West and how it was won—and lost—through the blood, sweat, and tears of many.”

“Spanning the four years of the Civil War, from 1861 to 1865, Kevin Costner’s ambitious cinematic adventure will take audiences on an emotional journey across a country at war with itself, experienced through the lens of families, friends, and foes all attempting to discover what it truly means to be the United States of America.”

The cast for Horizon: An American Saga is pretty epic too. Alongside Costner is Jena Malone, Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Isabelle Fuhrman, Micheal Rooker, Abbey Lee, Jamie Campbell Bower, Michael Angarano, Jeff Fahey, Thomas Haden Church, Giovanni Ribisi, Danny Huston, Tom Payne, Will Patton, Luke Wilson and Kathleen Quinlan. It would have been easier to list who wasn’t in the movie.

Cosner is credited as director and writer, co-written by Jon Baird. This looks like Baird’s first credit for anything movie-wise.

Horizon: An American Saga will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival in May. It will have a theatrical release on 28th June, with part two coming out on the 16th August.
