Rugby player-turned-actor Peter Claffey (“Vikings: Valhalla”) and child actor Dexter Sol Ansell (“The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”) have been cast in the lead roles of Dunk and Egg in the upcoming “Game of Thrones” prequel series “Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight” at
The series is set a century before the events of “Game of Thrones”. Two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros … a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall (Claffey), and his diminutive squire, Egg (Ansell).
Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne, and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.
The series is written and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker, and executive produced by Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis, Owen Harris and Sarah Bradshaw.
Whereas both ‘Thrones’ and “House of the Dragon” are sweeping war sagas with serious and political tones, this is said to be a more intimate two-hander with a lighter tone.
It is one of several ‘Thrones’ spin-offs put into development, with several others still in “active development”. A second season of “House of the Dragon” airs this summer with “The Hedge Knight” expected to screen in 2025.
