DC Studios co-CEO and filmmaker James Gunn is busy filming his “Superman: Legacy” project right now but has taken some time out to answer some questions online.
First up, he recently shot down the rumor that Boyd Holbrook had been cast as Harvey Dent in Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” giving a straight up ‘fake’ response to that report.
Next, he was asked if there were any casting updates on “The Authority” movie which is in the works. So far only Maria Gabriela de Faria’s casting as Angela Spica/The Engineer for “Superman: Legacy” has been the sole one announced thus far.
Gunn has now explained on Threads why no further casting announcements have been shared to date:
“We won’t green light a film until we have a finished script we’re happy with and, in general, we won’t cast a film until the script is finished. This is why some projects are moving faster than anticipated and others more slowly. It’s always gonna be quality first no matter what.”
Then asked if any any other DCU projects have their scripts in yet to which he says ‘Yes’. Asked if besides “Peacemaker” S2, “Superman,” “Creature Commandos” and “Supergirl” ar the only ones with scripts so far he responded: ‘Nope… meaning not ONLY them’. He also confirms he hasn’t written any of the others that have been completed.
The Authority is a team that operates unilaterally, independent of politics, law, or ethics, doing whatever is necessary to complete their missions and/or goals. The film is expected to be one of the early ones in the new DC Universe initiative.
