A new report over at The InSneider indicates that “Fast Five” and “Star Trek: Beyond” helmer Justin Lin was one of the names in contention to direct the fourth “Spider-Man” film at Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios.
The report says Tom Holland and Zendaya will return to their respective roles of Peter Parker and MJ in the feature and that filming is aiming to begin this year around September/October.
It’s added that Zendaya will film this before she gets to work on a third season of HBO’s “Euphoria” which has been delayed in part due to this and showrunner Sam Levinson reportedly shifting that show’s storyline away from high school into early adulthood.
Lin is known for directing large-scale blockbusters, so his potential hire here makes sense – the report didn’t indicate how many others are up for the gig at present.
Previously, star Tom Holland has shared conflicting feelings about returning and suggested he’d be open to being back if he could pass the torch onto another younger actor.
The report also indicates filming on Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” sequel will begin in April next year.
