Netflix and Norwegian crime writer Jo Nesbø are teaming up for “Harry Hole,” a new Nordic noir TV series based on Nesbo’s novel “The Devil’s Star”.
That book is the fifth novel in Nesbø’s book series about Harry Hole – an obsessive, brilliant but introverted homicide detective. He sometimes uses unorthodox and illegal methods in his investigations, and struggles with alcoholism and depression.
The Harry Hole novels have sold tens of millions of copies worldwide. Thirteen books have been written so far involving the character, the acclaimed seventh book “The Snowman” was famously adapted for the screen in 2017.
Despite the presence of a strong cast and famed director, the film’s production was rushed with huge chunks left unfilmed. The resulting cobbled-together narrative was deemed incomprehensible and earned scathing reviews, along with generating plenty of memes.
Working Title will produce the Norwegian series with Oystein Karlsen set to direct. Nesbø will adapt his own novel for the Netflix series – the first time he will pen a script for the screen.
Nesbø saw a successful adaptation of his work in 2011 with the dark comedy “Headhunters”.
