By Sony Pictures is shifting the release date for Jim Caviezel‘s new action-thriller, Ghost Soldier, moving it from November 6 to Tuesday, November 11, right in time for the Veterans Day holiday weekend.
A One-Man War Against Corporate Greed
In Ghost Soldier, Caviezel stars as Henry “Fitz” Fitzgerald, a solitary veteran with a secretive past who lives a quiet, off-the-grid existence in his hometown. But when a ruthless foreign corporation descends on his community, determined to seize his and his neighbors’ land for a massive payday, Fitz is forced back into action. As it turns out, Fitz isn’t just a quiet local—he’s a former Special Forces operative and advanced weapons developer. Armed with experimental high-tech gear no one has ever seen before, a lifetime of lethal military expertise, and an unwavering code of justice, Fitz becomes the one thing his corporate enemies never anticipated: a one-man war they can’t win.
Stepping Into a Stacked Holiday Lineup
Shifting Ghost Soldier to Veterans Day weekend is a bold play by Sony, especially given the heavy competition stacking up across theaters. The film will now go toe-to-toe against Amazon MGM Studios’ heist flick How to Rob a Bank, Bleecker Street’s period horror feature Victorian Psycho, and Ti West’s stylized holiday retake Ebenezer, which stars Johnny Depp as Scrooge.
Ghost Soldier is directed by William Eubank (Land of Bad, Underwater, The Signal) and written by Chris Papasadero. Sources close to the project report that Eubank is aiming for a classic late-’80s and ’90s lone-wolf action tone, blending tactile, thrilling combat sequences with a slick depiction of high-tech weaponry.
Jim Caviezel’s Busy Horizon
Beyond Ghost Soldier, Caviezel has been keeping a remarkably busy schedule across multiple projects. He recently wrapped production on Cyrus Nowrasteh’s Dark Horse, a biographical crime drama following the rise of Jair Bolsonaro, the former military officer who went from obscurity to a seat in Congress before ultimately becoming the president of Brazil. Camille Guaty co-stars as Michelle Bolsonaro, with Esai Morales stepping in as Paulo Pontes.
Additionally, Caviezel is set to portray King Herod in Angel Studios’ upcoming “spiritual thriller” Zero A.D.: The Birth of Christ. Directed by Alejandro Monteverde (Sound of Freedom, Cabrini) and written by Rod Barr, the film chronicles the fallout after a star rises over Bethlehem. As Herod orders the tragic slaughter of the innocents, Mary and Joseph must embark on a dangerous journey to protect the child destined to change the world.
