Filming has officially begun on “Fargo,” “Legion” and “Alien: Earth” creator Noah Hawley’s new “Far Cry” TV series, based on the popular Ubisoft game franchise, for FX.
Hawley is teaming with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia” and “Welcome to Wrexham” star/producer Rob Mac on the series, which will star the likes of Steve Buscemi, Lizzy Caplan and Mac.
The games follow the player who is usually put into a wilderness environment of some sort (several tropical islands, East Africa, the Himalayas, Montana) where they must fight against one or more despots that control the region as well as survive against the local wildlife.
Like the games, the show will be an anthology with each season telling a different story in a different part of the world with a new cast of characters each time.
Hawley previously said the aim is to “create a big action show that can change from year to year, while always exploring the nature of humanity through this complex and chaotic lens” and have an “irreverent, ambitious” tone.
At release, “Far Cry” will stream on Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in other parts of the world.
