FX has released the official trailer for American Horror Story: 13, and the thirteenth installment of Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk’s long-running horror anthology is bringing back some of the franchise’s most recognizable characters. Check out the trailer in the embed above!
The new season of American Horror Story premieres Thursday, September 24, at 9 p.m. ET / 6 p.m. PT on FX and Hulu. And considering that this is the season Murphy has described as a kind of “greatest hits” installment, there are a lot of familiar faces waiting in the shadows.
American Horror Story: 13 brings back fan-favorite characters
FX has already confirmed the return of several major American Horror Story characters, including Constance Langdon, Cordelia Goode, Madison Montgomery, Marie Laveau, Rubber Man, Twisty the Clown, and Kai Anderson. That means AHS: 13 isn’t simply another standalone chapter in the anthology. It’s reaching back into the show’s history and bringing some of its most memorable characters together.
That’s especially exciting for fans of American Horror Story: Coven and American Horror Story: Apocalypse, as the new season returns to the world of Miss Robichaux’s Academy and its witches.
The returning cast includes Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Angela Bassett, Kathy Bates, Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Gabourey Sidibe, Leslie Grossman, Joey Pollari, and Jamie Brewer, alongside a huge ensemble of returning and new performers.
Ryan Murphy’s “greatest hits” season
American Horror Story has spent more than a decade building its own mythology, moving from the haunted Murder House of the first season to an asylum, a coven of witches, a freak show, a haunted hotel, and the apocalypse. Now, American Horror Story: 13 appears to be pulling elements from several of those stories into one massive reunion.
The season’s episode titles have already given fans plenty to speculate about. “The Return of Devil’s Night” appears to point back toward American Horror Story: Hotel, while “The Baddest Witch of Them All” obviously has Coven fans wondering what is in store for the witches. Then there’s “Madison’s Happy Ending,” which appears to put Emma Roberts‘ Madison Montgomery directly back in the spotlight.
We previously broke down all 13 episode titles and the first six episode synopses, so there’s already quite a bit of information available about what AHS: 13 has planned.
American Horror Story: 13 has 13 half-hour episodes
As the title suggests, American Horror Story: 13 will consist of 13 episodes, with each episode running approximately 30 minutes. The season premieres with three episodes on September 24, followed by additional episodes throughout October. The thirteenth and final episode is scheduled to arrive just before Halloween.
That gives FX a chance to turn American Horror Story: 13 into one long horror event leading directly into Halloween.
The thirteenth season comes from creators Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk, with Murphy, Falchuk, Ned Martel, and Charlie Carver among the executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television.
