“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” helmer Destin Daniel Cretton has boarded a new film adaptation of the classic 1960s crime procedural TV series “Hawaii Five-O” at Paramount Pictures.
According to The Dish, Cretton will develop to direct the project, with “Bad Boys for Life” scribe Chris Bremner writing the script alongside Noah Oppenheim (“Jackie”).
The estate of series creator Leonard Freeman is also involved, with Guymon Casady producing. Paramount had the first offer because both the original series and 2010s remake were done at CBS.
The original series starred Jack Lord as Steve McGarrett, a no-nonsense lawman who headed a state police task force in Hawaii.
Alex Loughlin, Scott Caan, Daniel Dae Kim and Grace Park led the 2010 series remake – both shows ran long, twelve and ten seasons respectively.
Cretton, who also helmed “Shang-Chi: Legend of the Ten Rings” and “Short Term 12,” is next slated to helm a live-action “Naruto” movie shooting early next year.
