The scientific community is constantly sharing papers, knowledge, and discoveries all around the world, be it by amateur seekers of truth on the internet or celebrated researchers in laboratories. Not all of their end results have some photogenic component, but they can all be represented by some form of picture.
This is the core of today’s topic, pictures that celebrate lovers of science. If you’re into the depths of space, the curiosities of wildlife or anything in between, we’re sure to have something that will warm your day. If nothing else, these pictures are certainly cool.
Earth’s First Picture
Taken by Yuri Alexseyevich Gagarin, this is the first picture to be taken of planet Earth by a cosmonaut. It shows the planet in its own pristine beauty, far enough to grasp its width, yet close enough to not fit on any single image.
Fish Capture
Pictures that capture an exact moment of animal interaction are hard to come by, hence why we’re lucky to have this one. The way the water frames the bird’s prey makes this quite the picture.
Accessible Milky Way
This is a view of the sky from the Chilean Andes, near Cerro Chajnantor. At 16,500 feet above sea level, it gives one of the clearest views of the Milky Way from our home, planet Earth.
Hyena’s Hoard
These thousands of bones were kept and buried by a group of hyenas in Saudi Arabia. The remains included camel, rodent, and human bones.

This isn’t a mere image of a bird, it is the front piece of research into animals evolving due to climate change. While we won’t live to see it, it seems that animals will continue to become smaller as temperatures rise.
First Man On The Moon
The first steps man took on the moon will be forever relevant, since that’s the start of a true new frontier. In the picture, we can see Neil Amstrong as he wanders the Earth’s natural satellite.

Many large animals are in danger of extinction thanks to poachers, and the market there is for their bones and marrow. It’s important to remember the right to live all animals have, even the ones we don’t domesticate.

We’re used to how our moon looks, which can make it quite strange to see the moons of other planets. Pictured here is Phobos, a martian moon that shares the general look of our moon but not its shape.
Amazonian Bear
There is a technique for photographing wildlife that involves camera traps, meaning that no human being is around when the picture is taken. This allows the animals to behave as they normally would, like this Andean bear.
Black Hole Simulation
The idea of black holes is hard to wrap our heads around, particularly since no real image can make them justice. This is one such attempt at illustrating them, and how the one at the center of our galaxy might look like.
Robot Photo
This image depicts the robot Phoenix descending to Mars, onto one of its craters to be precise. The picture itself was taken by a different robot, Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, meaning that we’re filling Mars up with more robots with each passing decade.
Large Hadron Collider
Being able to visit a machine that aims to further humanity’s understanding of physics is an event in and of itself, something nobody should take for granted. Pictured here are the superconductors that make everything possible.
Martian Dunes
Alien dunes are all the rage thanks to a certain series of books and movies, but they will never match the beauty of actual Martian dunes, as pictured here in all their splendor.
