One element I always appreciate in an Adam Wingard flick is the casting. In his latest, Onslaught (read our review here), that very strength is fully on display. In the new action thriller, a woman is forced to protect her daughter from a trio of super soldiers. Wingard never follows the basic path. He creates engaging characters that feel genuine, even in extreme situations.
The cast includes Adria Arjona and Blake Kennedy as the mother and daughter. It also includes genre superstars like Michael Biehn and talent like Reginald VelJohnson. Two standouts include the always enigmatic Dan Stevens, along with the talented Drew Starkey. The two actors are given some of their most original work to date. And yes, you can certainly see how this latest action-packed adrenaline ride will spark a few rewatches.
Recently, I sat down with Dan Stevens and Drew Starkey. During our discussion, the two talked about working with Adam Wingard. Both were given the chance to take on uniquely shaded villain-ish characters, but not the tired old routine. With a script by Simon Barrett and Wingard’s story credit, you know you are in for a ride. And of course, with a few minutes left during the interview, I mentioned the Robocop series to Dan, and frankly, I believe we are in for a treat with the series reboot.
