Prime Video has just released the trailer for their latest romantic comedy in their Obsession is in Session initiative, which involves a big list of YA films for their teen demographic. This latest film is The Love Hypothesis and it is based on the novel by author Ali Hazelwood. Claire Scanlon directs The Love Hypothesis from a script adapted by Sarah Rothschild.
The Love Hypothesis is a classic tale of a girl who must manifest a fake relationship with a willing participant to keep up appearances. However, throughout the wacky hijinks of their dueling personalities amid the charade, the fraudulent couple find that they actually have a greater chemistry than anticipated. It may bring to mind films like Anyone But You or Picture Perfect.
The Love Hypothesis
The film stars Lili Reinhart, Tom Bateman, Rachel Marsh, Nicholas Duvernay, Jaboukie Young-White and Arty Froushan. Elizabeth Cantillon serves as a producer.
The official synopsis from Prime Video reads,
“Based on the New York Times best-selling novel by Ali Hazelwood, The Love Hypothesis follows Olive (Lili Reinhart), a brilliant Ph.D. candidate focused on her future in academia. But when she realizes her best friend Ahn (Rachel Marsh) has fallen for her crush Jeremy (Nicholas Duvernay), Olive impulsively kisses intimidating professor Adam Carlsen (Tom Bateman) to prove she’s moved on. What begins as a desperate act of friendship spirals into a fake relationship with rules, boundaries, and a mutually beneficial agreement. When their arrangement begins to blur the lines between performance and reality, Olive is forced to test her most daunting hypothesis yet: that love might actually be worth the risk.”
The Love Hypothesis starts streaming on September 23.
Obsession is in Session
The films in Prime Video’s YA initiative include Off Campus, Every Year After, Elle, Sterling Point, The Last Sunrise, The Love Hypothesis, The Devil’s Mouth, Maxton Hall Season 3, Drawn Together (Marfil), Your Fault: London, Perfectos Mentirosos, and Clashing Through the Snow.
The synopsis for the initiative reads, “Obsession Is In Session brings together talent, creators, and the influential cultural voices defining today’s entertainment landscape to create an ecosystem of experiences that extends far beyond the screen—meeting YA audiences where they are and building meaningful connections between the stories they love and the communities they’ve created around them.” The streamer threw an event called Obsessed Fest earlier this summer to commemorate this era.
