Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” is coming to U.S. IMAX on Thursday.
Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” has been hogging all the IMAX cinemas in the country thanks to a three-week exclusivity window. That comes to an end this week.
From Thursday, IMAX is able to schedule other blockbusters in its coveted auditoriums, and Spider-Man is set to fill up some of them – sharing in some of the giant screen format’s riches.
Nolan’s Greek epic is expected to retain most of the company’s screens – especially all the IMAX 70MM ones that are sold out for weeks to come.
“The Odyssey” has pulled in a staggering $221 million globally in IMAX and that’s before opening in China, South Korea and Japan.
“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has managed to gross $927 million globally by the end of its first weekend.
The film’s director Destin Daniel Cretton also recently confirmed (via OutNow.Ch) that the montage of villains at the start of the film originally included Paste-Pot Pete, a character they “had lot of fun with”. However, he “didn’t quite make it in”.
In the comics, the character is a research scientist who invented a multi-polymer adhesive and uses it to commit crimes in a ridiculous outfit and with a ‘paste-gun’.
