20th Century Studios President of Production Steve Asbell has shot down talk that the planned sequel to “Alien: Romulus” has been scrapped.
On Friday, talk came that the film, which had recently been seeking a director, had been “indefinitely shelved and might not ever happen” and that “there is currently no path forward for the sequel”.
Now, Abell has responded to the report on X, giving the single word response: “Nope”.
Fede Alvarez was originally slated to direct and co-write with Rodo Sayagues, a script was done, but then Alvarez abruptly exited the film in September last year. Since then, the film has been struggling to find a replacement.
At the same time, “Whalefall” writer/director Brian Duffield was rumoured to be writing a new “Alien” film at 20th Century Studios, but it was never clear if it was a whole new project or a rewrite/new draft of the ‘Romulus’ sequel.
Duffield has also responded to the report, retweeting Asbell’s denial, which has raised some eyebrows.
