United Artists‘ Scott Stuber, Amblin‘s Steven Spielberg and Amazon MGM Studios have jointly won a massive eleven-studio bidding war for “The Mandela Catalogue”.
In the wake of the success of “Backrooms” and “Obsession,” studios have been on the hunt for YouTube viral horror sensations, which led them to this project.
Launched in 2021, “The Mandela Catalogue” has amassed well over 100 million views across its official episodes, which are set in the fictional region of Mandela County, Wisconsin.
Said region has been invaded by shape-shifting, nearly immortal creatures called Alternates. Creator Alex Kister will direct the film from a script he co-wrote with Tyler Clifton.
Stuber, Spielberg, Kister, Clifton, Holly Bario, Nick Nesbitt and Aaron B. Koontz will all produce.
