Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and DC Studios have offered the first photos from “Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall” – the first of a multi-part animated film adaptation of the iconic three-part comic storyline.
The original comics storyline was published between 1993-1994. In the story, Gotham City faces escalating chaos after the ruthless and super steroid-enhanced genius Bane orchestrates a campaign to physically and psychologically exhaust Batman before confronting him.
As Batman struggles to contain a citywide crime wave following a mass breakout at Arkham, Bane seeks to prove himself the superior force and does so by famously breaking Batman’s back.
Bruce is replaced as Batman by an apprentice named Jean-Paul Valley (a.k.a. Azrael), who becomes increasingly violent and unstable, tarnishing Batman’s reputation. Eventually, Bruce is healed through paranormal means and reclaims his role as Batman.
Jeff Wamester directs, and Jeremy Adams pens this first of the films which mark the first direct screen adaptation of the material – though elements have been used for other projects such as Chris Nolan’s “The Dark Knight Rises”.
The photos from the film show Batman confronting a massive Bane, Mr. Freeze, and Batman confronting Azrael. Warner Bros. Pictures Animation, DC Studios and Warner Home Entertainment are behind the project due out later this year.
